Reducing newborn illness through handwashing

What we are actually solving

The goal of the Clean Hands Healthy Babies project is to reduce neonatal and infant illness by increasing handwashing by caregivers in the home.

To do this the project provides both hardware — the handwashing materials themselves — and software, in the form of handwashing behaviour change communication delivered to participants.

Our approach

Three things we insist on

  1. Hardware

Handwashing materials provided directly to participating households.

  2. Software

Handwashing behaviour change communication delivered alongside the materials.

  3. Through existing structures

Delivered with village health support groups across ten health centre catchment areas.
